TRENDS 2011/12

With the outdoor season now in full flourish, we welcome long days spent in the sun and relaxing by poolsides. And with the new season upon us, Ultimo Interiors take a look at the trends to hit the outdoor room for Summer 2011/12.

The latest arrivals at the 'Ultimo Exteriors' Studio include pieces by Varaschin and Royal Botania, which were selected at Milan 2011 and are set to scorch Australian shores. The new luxe pieces hold a subtle elegance to grace the outdoor scene, with soft, natural colour schemes and finishes.

"Outdoor furniture finishes are moving away from stark contrasts and into the realm of softer, more site specific finishes. An awareness and indeed emphasis on complementing the environment into which they are placed is key. As such, bright bold colours and black and white, are giving way to softer tones in cappuccino, taupe, camel and soft pastels. Adding to Varaschin, the brand we fell in love with last Summer, Ultimo Interiors has now launched outdoor pieces from Belgium’s Royal Botania. Exclusive to Ultimo Interiors in Western Australia, Royal Botania offer luxury outdoor furniture in beautiful teak wood, their signature finish, with stunning glass accents.

O-ZON Round Dining Table in White

Australian first Cattelan Italia Concept Studio at Ultimo Interiors 

Ultimo Interiors have launched Australia's first Cattelan Italia Concept Studio. The stunning showroom has a dedicated 150m2 for the Italian brand, showcasing beloved pieces meticulously selected in Milan 2011.

Cattelan Italia infuse luxe living with state of the art design and quality materials, for innovative products with a strong visual impact and design longevity within the home. Established in 1979 by Giorgio Cattelan, who came from a long family heritage in furniture design, Cattelan Italia initially launched with pieces that incorporated marble elements. This quickly expanded to a contemporary mix of elements including wood, glass, leather and metal to create the unique pieces that have marked Cattelan Italia as a leading brand in the furniture design industry.

Ultimo Interiors are excited to bring the elite brand to Australian shores.

The dedicated studio is the first of its kind for Cattelan Italia in Australia. Walking through the space is truly mesmerising. Housing over 30 pieces, many of which were presented at this year's Milan Show, including the iconic GLOBUS coffee table and stunning ARTIC pendent lamps, the Cattelan Italia Concept Studio at Ultimo Interiors will undoubtedly impress.

 

The Cattelan Italia Concept Studio is now open at Ultimo Interiors where you will find pieces especially chosen by Ultimo for the showcase, including;

GOTHAM Dining Table

Designed by Andrea Lucatello, GOTHAM by Cattelan Italia masters angles and crisp, modern dining. A 15mm thick square of clear tempered glass table top sits upon the regal stainless steel base. Four protruding arms of a central column create the leg structure. The arms are uniquely cut and angled to capture light and create a metallic kaleidoscope effect. Table top 140cm×140cm with a height of 75cm. Also available as a round table top with diameters of 130cm, 140cm and 160cm.


ARTIC Pendent Lamp

A broken white sphere characterised by charming desultory etchings gives Cattelan Italia's ARTIC lamp its unique identity. The polyurethane dome hangs from the ceiling, looking spectacular as a set or even when placed solitarily. Designed by Giorgio Cattelan, ARTIC will undoubtedly impress. Sphere is 25cm in height with a diameter of 34cm.

SPYDER Dining Table

The eight-pronged stainless steel pedestal base is reminiscent to that of a spider's legs, stretching confidently out from a central torso. Available with legs in stainless steel, matt white or graphite varnished steel, or alternatively in walnut, SPYDER will suitably match modern interiors. A table top in extra clear glass rests atop the upper prongs, allowing full focus to be centred on the eye-catching steel base.

VENEZIA Chandelier

Style in its purest form, the VENEZIA chandelier is Italian contemporary design at its most aspirational. Metals, glass, marble and crystal make up these interior works of art. The spectacular Venezia chandelier ceiling light is made with glittering glass pendants in varying lengths and is suspended from a chrome steel frame. SYLVESTER Chaise Longue

Claremont Home Project

A stunning 1900’s federation home in Claremont has been renovated and extended by its owners, a couple who have a passion for old homes and conserving heritage within the community. Designed by award-winning architect Joe Chindarsi, the new extension has transformed the home from a run-down duplex into a 4x3 with open plan kitchen and dining, and an outdoor area with sunken entertaining area, lap pool and outdoor kitchen.

Andrew Thornton Hick, interior designer at Ultimo Interiors, designed the gorgeous interiors with feature furniture pieces by Hülsta, Rolf Benz, xO – Philippe Starck, Cattelan Italia, Varaschin, Calligaris, and Hip Home Rugs - all available at Ultimo Interiors. His choices achieved a seamless connection between the old and the new elements of the house, with a clever mix of contemporary and antique pieces.

"The principle brief was to furnish the home with luxury in a way that unified it’s two faces instead of dividing them. Pulling colours from lead lights into artwork, mixing contemporary German upholstery from Rolf Benz with some of the owners antique pieces, and fusing different cultural influences made this project a joy to create.” Andrew Thornton Hick

TWELVE Launch Event and Christmas Party

 

Ultimo Interiors have once again launched the latest product ranges from Europe's leading furniture houses at their exclusive annual VIP event, held on Friday 25th November at their Osborne Park showroom.

Showcasing the new 2011/12 season from Hülsta, Rolf Benz, Varaschin, and more, guests were also introduced to new-to-Ultimo brands Sartori Rugs, FLAI and Royal Botania. The showroom had undergone massive refurbishment to make way for the new pieces that had been meticulously selected at Milan 2011.

Highlights of the night included the launch of Australia's first Cattelan Italia Studio, with a dedicated area of the showroom now housing stunning pieces such as the GOTHAM Dining Table, SYLVESTER Chaise Longue and HUBLOT pendant lights.

Local WA designers CO2 Designs launched the new Origami Sofa, with a beautiful overhanging chandelier of paper cranes made by guests on the night. Tim Francis, Designer, presented their latest piece in front of over 150 guests. The origami crane chandelier will be kept at Ultimo Interiors to compliment the sofa as an art installation.

Guests enjoyed freshly prepared canapes on the Onfalos indoor/outdoor cooker by Bellini Studio, amongst the latest pieces in the 'Ultimo Exteriors' decked outdoor studio, including the stunning O-ZON round dining table by Royal Botania and fresh pieces from Varaschin.

Wonderful catering by Ryan John Private Chef was delightfully followed by an indulgent candy buffet.

Australia's first Cattelan Italia Studio

Ultimo Interiors will be launching Australia's first Cattelan Italia Studio after extensive renovations to the showroom to accommodate all the pieces meticulously selected for their TWELVE Launch Event.

For Cattelan Italia, Ultimo Interior's dedicated studio within the showroom is the first of its kind for the brand in Australia. Housing such pieces as the GOTHAM dining table, ARCTIC lamp, SYLVESTER chaise longue and GLOBUS coffee table, the Cattelan Studio will certainly impress.

Rolf Benz High Tea

An intimate group of guests were invited to the showroom on 28th October 2011 for our exclusive Rolf Benz High Tea. Special guest of honour Markus Acker, Export Manager of Rolf Benz, made a presentation of Rolf Benz through history and the latest trends and innovations you'll be seeing from the brand in the coming season.

Guests then enjoyed a delicious array of sweet treats by private chef Ryan John. The blueberry scones, Spanish doughnuts and finger sandwiches were the kings of the high tea.

Markus Acker will now continue his tour of Australia and Asia during the Rolf Benz 2011/12 Roadshow. He had previous visited Adelaide.

A Bed of IVY

MILAN 2011 - The highlights from Hulsta

Hulsta has presented a beautiful showroom at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2011, with highlights including the new NEO Living range, new advancements in the Elumo, Tameta, and Multiforma ranges, and an amazing new dining table called the ET1700 that must be seen to be believed.

NEO

The launch of the stunning NEO range is the first highlight you see upon arrival, with a standout structure at the front of the Hulsta stand incorporating striking units stacked 3 metres high, in a new dark grey high gloss lacquer, and also a new timber called “Amber Tree”. This wood has a high contrast grain with plenty of personality, and provides a sharp contrast to either the dark grey gloss, or white OR cocoa gloss, as you prefer.

NEO is adaptable to any living space, compatible with every lifestyle, innovative and sophisticated, offering uncomplicated shapes and surprising details. Clean-cut modular units in different widths, heights and depths can be freestanding, stacked or suspended and, complemented by a side panel system as well as wall panels, all in matt lacquer with a choice of matt or high gloss for the fronts.

NEO is available in core walnut, natural oak and amber tree, offering harmonious combinations with white, grey and cocoa lacquer. High-gloss lacquers or lacquered glass surfaces in the same colours create striking accents.




NEO is also designed to include an intelligent integration of modern communication tools and extensive media equipment. It delivers an innovative combination of clean lines with limitless individuality and a timeless character with state-of-the-art technology. The sound panel with excellent HiFi sound offers a long-awaited solution to discreetly integrate speakers: It acts as a docking station for mini HiFis, iPods or PCs; the sound is provided by two tweeters on the upper edge of the panel.

In addition to “communication” units, NEO offers clever components, which keep things neat and tidy and can be easily integrated into drawers. We have taken into account that living and dining areas increasingly merge into one and have added accessories including stylish cutlery and plate inserts, bottle holders as well as practical utensil drawers. High-quality materials such as wool felt and stainless steel underline the sophisticated design. Additionally, a hotplate can be integrated into the upper carcase board of selected units.

The relaunch of the popular ELUMO II bedroom range, featuring distinctive recesses in the wardrobe, chests and consoles, is characterised by an even more sophisticated design: Luxurious leather panels on the wardrobe fronts, in the attractive recesses, as upholstery on the bed frame and the elaborate headboards give ELUMO II a new, extravagant touch.

The bed, available in individual combinations of different headboards and bed frames in core walnut, white lacquer or precious white, sand, nougat or black leather, is the focal point of the range. The 42.2 cm high bed unit featuring a simplistic, cubist design leaves the headboard to take centre stage. The headboard is available as a dynamic, curved “sail” in wood or lacquer, or as a leather panel headboard with structured double seams and beautifully crafted details. It comes in 95 cm and 120 cm heights or as a functional, individually adjustable high-class leather headboard. All versions with leather headboard are available as freestanding beds.

Multiforma

MULTI-FORMA is a classic among intelligent wardrobe systems for bedrooms. Front design, wardrobe interiors and dimensions offer incredible variability, and the current addtions to the system, which include walk-in wardrobes and recess solutions as well as innovative design features, are almost too many to mention, and create even more design possibilities.

The endless add-on principle, corner solutions, height reductions and rear cuts allow individual adaptation to challenging room situations up to a new extravagant 337.8 cm height. Some of the new features include clear panels, inbuilt glass displays, moveable mirrors and filigree wood or lacquer applications.









ET1700

A perfect dining space. If required, the new ET 1700 changes its size and functionality, becoming the centre of enjoyment, companionship and relaxation. An intelligent mechanism allows spontaneous changeability.

The unpretentious, classically rectangular, split table top can be moved. Supported by a patented extension mechanism, the table changes its size, both in length as well as in width. Empty spaces are filled with extension leaves, creating an opening in the centre that can be equipped with various functional accessories.

Practical yet stylish inserts, for instance, make it easy to prepare small dishes at the table. They include a granite top for hot dishes. Openings, which conceal the cables below the table top, also allow using it for a Raclette etc. The electric glass field or – as a cosy alternative – a stainless steel insert for tealights create a hotplate. The double-sided stainless steel cooler keeps drinks at the right temperature. A solid beech cutting board and trays with porcelain or Corian bowls are perfect for preparing and serving.

A table fire providing ambient lighting adds a lovely finishing touch to the evening. Liquid fuel in a stainless steel box with glass walls, which sits in the functional opening of the ET 1700, provides a controlled, soot- and residue-free flame. A double-walled combustion chamber, safety glass, ignition and refill points ensure a secure view of the beautiful flames.

The ET 1700 is available in core walnut, natural oak and amber tree plus in white lacquer. To create subtle or contrasting colour combinations, the table top is also available in grey and cocoa lacquer.

MILAN 2011 – We love the NEO range by Huelsta

The Ultimo team are in Milan for the Salone Internazionale Del Mobile, and loved the new NEO range from Huelsta. They have set the standard in sleek design and adaptability – we especially loved the combination at the front of the stand with striking units stacked 3 metres high, in a new dark grey high gloss lacquer, and also a new timber called “Amber Tree”.















The combination here in the new high gloss Grey is a standout with the white lacquer, but the possibilities will be endless. These modular units will come in different widths, heights and depths can be freestanding, stacked or suspended and, all in matt lacquer with a choice of matt or high gloss for the fronts.

Black Magic Event at Ultimo Interiors
A spellbinding concoction at Ultimo Interiors charmed guests at the launch of enchantingly seductive SIMIA by Hülsta.



On Friday 25th March 2011, 200 guests arrived at Ultimo’s witchy lair to celebrate the Black Magic Event and the launch of Hülsta’s stunning new living room range, SIMIA. Guests were left in awe of SIMIA’s enchanting presence as the showroom was transformed into a spellbinding quarters, complete with witches hats, cobwebbed corners and smoky cauldrons.

SIMIA has just arrived in Australia, and its reception has instantly been one of fascination. Natural wooden elements are combined with matt lacquer and stained glass units to create a stunning modern living environment, but the most enchanting feature is the lighting. The secret is called BlackMagic glass. Unlit, it is a mysterious high-gloss black surface – when lit, it becomes transparent, showing the objects inside to great effect by using the latest LED technology.

Ultimo also introduced the latest arrivals from Rolf Benz, the classic RB6500 Leather Lounge and CO2 Designs with the stunning new IVY Bed.



To celebrate the latest arrivals, Ultimo created a Black Magic extravaganza. Fire charmers entertained and welcomed guests from outside where a black carpet lead guests into the showroom. Inside, a magician charmed guests with illusions and tricks while a fortune teller read the future in a mysterious corner. Guests enjoyed a black-and-white lolly buffet, with decadent white rocky road, chocolate frogs, black liquorice and humbugs.

 

Cleverly concealed secrets were kept beneath SIMIA’s BlackMagic glass cabinets, allowing guests a chance to experience stunning range. Special guest Jutta Busen, Export Manager from Hülsta, flew in from Germany to launch SIMIA and present the latest innovations of Hülsta technology. International guest Markus Acker, Export Manager of Rolf Benz, also presented to Ultimo’s valued guests about Design Integrity.

Lucky guests were the winners of incredible prizes pulled from a magician’s hat – just after the rabbit! A Hülsta Metis Chest, valued at $3,040, and Metis Cupboard, valued at $2,395, were taken home by two very happy guests, with a Rolf Benz 568 Leather Armchair, valued at $5,690, and a CO2 custom-designed wall clock also going home to delighted new owners. Four gorgeous Phillip Stark XO Mini Bonze Stool, valued at $200 each, were also won.

A true masterpiece of the range is the now! no.14 Coffee Table. Using clean straight lines the unit looks enticingly different at each angle. The simplistically low-sitting base in white lacquer or brown-black lacquer partners with a stylish bridge in the same or alternative finish. Bridge finishes are available in white lacquer, brown-black lacquer, light brown ash, or core walnut. Multi-layering allows you to reposition each piece along the base for endless compositions. An optional stained glass bonnet that slides along the full length of the base adds an unmatched versatility to complete the elegant look.
